VN Talker — Visual Novel Overlay
Turn tabletop conversations into visual-novel scenes: two characters on opposite sides, a highlighted speaker and a dialogue box styled for each character.
New in version 0.10.5
A first-launch popup introduces Jotape as the creator, presents the ongoing development of The System and offers links to discover the system or support development on Patreon. It appears for GMs and players and includes a do-not-show-again option.
Voice or text
To use Speak, open Foundry over HTTPS. On the computer hosting the game, http://localhost:30000 is also a secure context. Use Chrome or Edge with speech recognition available and allow microphone access. HTTPS does not replace permission or guarantee service availability.
The module displays this guidance next to its controls. You can type whenever voice is unavailable. For recognition, play in a browser tab and keep the Foundry desktop app as the server. Your browser may use an external service to process speech.
Features
- GM: place tokens on either side, click portraits to switch speakers and right-click to remove characters.
- Players: speak or type as their characters when the GM allows it.
- Free conversation or one-at-a-time mode, with the GM granting the floor.
- Per-character portraits, size, background textures, borders, glow, colors and text size.
- Local show/hide controls and a draggable, collapsible toolbar.
- Restore the scene after reloading or joining late, with a connected GM to synchronize and save it.
- Macro API; Portuguese and English interface.
Version 0.10.4
- Cleared dialogue no longer reappears in the next transcription; delayed partials cannot overwrite a different turn.
- Revoking permission or the floor stops the player's microphone.
- Removing the active character clears their dialogue before switching speakers.
- Joining during a conversation requests the current scene from the GM.
- Typed-text limits, visibility controls for everyone and small-screen improvements.
Free module, independent of game system. Declared compatibility: Foundry VTT 13–14. After updating, all participants should reload the page.
